Petra was settled by the Nabeteans several centuries BCE. It was a great trading centre. Trading east to India and west to Rome.

We then hired a donkey driver to take us to the Monastery.

The donkeys walked up lots of steps, Rob’s donkey liked to walk on the edge of the path which was a bit worrying. We had to walk the last bit but we made it to the high alter.
Later our guide took us over the mountains and up to a Bedouin village and returned us to our hotel in his car.
